It is well-known that polarized light sensitivity, found in many invertebrate species such as crustaceans and some insects, is absent in the more developed species, which are in turn characterised by chromatic perception. If this visual function modification was spurred by evolution, in theory it is possible the process reverses under certain anomalous conditions, like ocular hypertension: in such cases the visual system of the more evolved species would regress to a more primitive state so that the finer functions — chromatic perception for instance — would disappear and the latent because less important functions such as polarized light perception would surface. It is on this scenario that we base our theory of barostress phylogenetic regression. In this paper the more speculative aspects of the barostress phylogenetic regressiontheory are depicted.
E’ noto che la sensibilità alla luce polarizzata presente in molte specie di invertebrati come i crostacei ed alcuni insetti manca nelle specie più evolute, che godono invece del senso cromatico.
Se la trasformazione di questa funzione fosse il risultato di un processo evolutivo, in teoria è possibile il verificarsi di un’inversione di tendenza in certe condizioni anomale, come l’ipertensione oculare: è ipotizzabile che in questi casi il sistema visivo delle specie più evolute regredisca ad uno stato più primitivo cosicché le funzioni più raffinate, come il senso cromatico, scompaia e ritornino a minifestarsi funzioni fino ad allora latenti perché meno importanti, come la percezione della luce polarizzata. E’ su questo presupposto che si fonda la nostra teoria della regressione filogenetica da barostress. In questo articolo ne sono illustrati gli aspetti più speculativi.
