What underlies the psychometric function? from neural to behavioral sensory performance_SparksVis Sci 9:1-3, 2020
The source of the psychometric performance is a matter of great interest. It stands to reason that the behavioral response to a stimulus and in particular the threshold is function of the neural response: but how does this neural response generate the psychometric performance? What are the characteristics of this relation? These questions have been considered in a review by Parker and Newsome dating back 1998. Here we will summarize the general framework of the issue focusing on visual perception.
